Members of the Ft. Collins, Colorado, FoG, participated in the Special Olympics Bowling on Sunday, October 12, 2009. The majority of those competing were adults with developmental disabilities. We helped get individual team members registered before the event and assisted the participates to line up their shots. I'd say our biggest task (and most fun) was offering encouragement and cheering on the participants. This population is especially rewarding to work with because the joy they express is incredibly addicting. Regardless of the score, they focus on the fun of the competition and the camaraderie of the team. This is a wonderful reminder to those of us who can get distracted by the winning and losing. Sports are supposed to be fun! Gabe would have enjoyed being with us & all of his friends missed him greatly.
